Use a sharp dog nail trimmer or grinder
Have styptic powder or cornstarch ready
Hold the paw firmly but gently
Trim in small increments
Cut only the very tip of the nail
Look for a dark center with a small gray or white ring at the cut surface
Stop when you see a black dot or a softer center appear
Avoid cutting straight across too deeply
Trim a little at a time every few days if needed
Reward the dog after each nail
If unsure, ask a groomer or veterinarian to show you how
