Wash the skin immediately with soap and cool water
Rinse under running water for at least 10–15 minutes if exposure was recent
Wash all clothing, shoes, gloves, tools, and pet fur that may have urushiol oil on them
Apply cool compresses to the rash
Take colloidal oatmeal baths
Use calamine lotion
Use hydrocortisone cream on affected areas
Take an oral antihistamine for itching if needed
Avoid scratching the rash
Keep fingernails short and clean
Use cool, loose-fitting clothing
Seek medical care if the rash is severe, widespread, on the face or genitals, or if there is swelling, pus, fever, or trouble breathing
Seek medical care if symptoms are not improving after 1–2 weeks
Use prescription steroids if recommended by a clinician
