Wash the skin immediately with soap and cool water
Rinse under running water for at least 10 to 15 minutes
Wash clothing, shoes, tools, and anything else that may have urushiol on it
Avoid scratching the rash
Apply cool compresses to the affected area
Use calamine lotion or colloidal oatmeal
Apply 1% hydrocortisone cream as directed
Take an oral antihistamine for itching if needed
Keep fingernails short and clean
Seek medical care if the rash is severe, widespread, on the face or genitals, or if there is swelling, pus, fever, or trouble breathing
