Place the shrimp in a colander or bowl
Run cold water over the shrimp until thawed
Stir or separate the shrimp occasionally
Keep the shrimp in a sealed bag if using the cold-water method
Change the water every 30 minutes if soaking in cold water
Thaw shrimp in the refrigerator overnight
Cook shrimp immediately after thawing
Do not use hot water
Do not leave shrimp at room temperature for long periods
