Cancel any active subscriptions
Use any remaining funds or gift card balances
Turn off recurring billing
Save copies of emails, files, and contacts
Remove account access from devices and apps
Go to the Microsoft account closure page
Verify your identity if prompted
Review the account closure information
Select the reason for closing the account
Mark the account for closure
Wait 30 to 60 days for permanent deletion
Do not sign in during the waiting period if you want the account deleted
Check that all linked services and accounts are updated before closure
