How to Dispute Accounts on Credit Report?

Obtain copies of your credit reports from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion

Identify the accounts you want to dispute

Gather supporting documents for each disputed account

Check for errors such as incorrect balances, late payments, duplicate accounts, or accounts that do not belong to you

File a dispute with each credit bureau reporting the inaccurate account

Submit disputes online, by mail, or by phone if available

Include your full name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, account details, and a clear explanation of the error

Attach copies of supporting documents, not originals

Keep copies of everything you send

Send disputes by certified mail if filing by mail

Dispute the account directly with the creditor or collection agency as well

Monitor the status of each dispute

Review the results after the investigation is completed

Request updated credit reports showing any corrections

Re-dispute any remaining inaccurate information with additional evidence

Add a fraud alert or credit freeze if the account is the result of identity theft
