Use the author’s last name and the year of publication in parentheses

For a direct quote, include the page number

For a source with two authors, include both last names joined by an ampersand
Example: (Smith & Jones, 2020)
For a source with three or more authors, use the first author’s last name followed by et al.
Example: (Smith et al., 2020)
If the author’s name is mentioned in the sentence, put only the year in parentheses
Example: Smith (2020) stated that…
For a group or organization as author, use the full name the first time
Example: (American Psychological Association, 2020)
For no author, use a shortened title in quotation marks
Example: (“APA Guide,” 2020)
For no date, use n.d.
Example: (Smith, n.d.)
