Clear the area and level the ground
Place the raised bed in position
Add a weed barrier if desired
Fill the bottom with coarse organic material if the bed is deep
Add a mix of topsoil, compost, and other organic matter
Blend the materials evenly as you fill
Lightly water each layer to help it settle
Continue filling until the bed is 1 to 2 inches below the rim
Top off with compost or mulch if needed
Water thoroughly after filling
Let the soil settle before planting
Refill any low spots after settling
