How To Fix A Leaky Outdoor Faucet?

Turn off the water supply to the faucet

Open the faucet to relieve pressure and drain remaining water

Check the handle packing nut and tighten it if loose

Remove the handle and inspect the packing washer or O-ring

Replace any worn or damaged washers, O-rings, or packing material

Inspect the hose bibb stem for cracks, corrosion, or wear

Replace the entire stem if it is damaged

Check the vacuum breaker or backflow preventer for leaks and replace if needed

Inspect the connection to the pipe and tighten or reseal if necessary

Apply plumber’s tape to threaded connections if reassembling threaded parts

Reinstall the handle and turn the water supply back on

Test the faucet for leaks

Replace the entire outdoor faucet if repairs do not stop the leak
