How To Fix Overexposed Photos?

Open the photo in an editor (Photoshop, Lightroom, Snapseed, etc.)

Reduce exposure or exposure compensation

Lower highlights

Reduce whites

Increase contrast only if needed after highlight recovery

Pull down the shadows only if overall tones become too flat

Adjust the tone curve to compress highlights (lift midtones only if needed)

Use highlight recovery / “Recover” controls (if available)

Apply a mask and adjust only the overexposed areas

Lower the brightness of the affected regions (local adjustment)

Decrease saturation or vibrance if colors look washed out

Correct white balance if the image looks too warm/cool after exposure changes

Use selective color adjustments to restore detail in blown channels

If using Photoshop: try Camera Raw Filter → Highlights/Whites/Exposure + Tone Curve

If using Photoshop: use blend modes or luminosity masks to protect highlights

Avoid pushing shadows too far after fixing highlights to prevent noise

Export at the highest quality setting and re-check on-screen and on a second device
