Wash your hands and the area with soap and warm water
Apply a warm, damp compress for 5–10 minutes
Gently exfoliate the area with a clean washcloth or mild scrub
Use clean tweezers or a sterile needle only if the hair tip is visible at the surface
Lift the hair out gently without digging into the skin
Do not pluck the hair from the root
Stop if the skin breaks or bleeds
Apply an antiseptic or over-the-counter antibiotic ointment
Keep the area clean and dry
Avoid shaving or waxing the area until it heals
Wear loose clothing to reduce irritation
Seek medical care if there is severe pain, swelling, pus, spreading redness, or repeated ingrown hairs
