Blot up as much urine as possible with clean paper towels or a dry cloth
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water
Lightly soak the affected area with the vinegar solution
Blot again with clean towels
Sprinkle baking soda over the damp area
Let the baking soda sit until the carpet is completely dry
Vacuum up the baking soda
If the smell remains, apply an enzymatic pet urine cleaner
Follow the cleaner’s directions and let it dry fully
Repeat the process if needed
Use a wet/dry vacuum if the urine has soaked deep into the carpet
Check and clean the carpet pad if the odor persists
Avoid using steam or heat before the smell is removed
Test any cleaning solution on a small hidden area first
