Blot up as much urine as possible with paper towels or a clean cloth
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water
Lightly soak the affected area with the solution
Blot again with clean towels
Sprinkle baking soda over the damp area
Let it sit until completely dry
Vacuum up the baking soda
Use an enzymatic pet urine cleaner on the spot if the smell remains
Repeat the cleaning process if needed
Avoid using steam or heat until the odor is fully gone
Replace the carpet padding if the urine has soaked through and the smell persists
