Drink water regularly before and after waking
Eat something light and salty (toast, crackers, soup, broth)
Have a small amount of carbohydrates and protein (bananas, yogurt, eggs)
Rehydrate with an oral rehydration solution or electrolyte drink
Avoid alcohol and more “hair of the dog”
Get rest and sleep
Take a shower or use gentle stretching if you feel up to it
For headache or body aches, use acetaminophen or ibuprofen as directed on the label
Avoid acetaminophen if you’ve been drinking heavily or have liver disease
Avoid taking more than one pain reliever at a time unless the label says it’s safe
Sip fluids slowly if you feel nauseated
Choose ginger tea or peppermint tea if it helps nausea
Eat bland foods if you have an upset stomach
Avoid greasy, spicy foods and caffeine if they worsen nausea
If nausea is severe, keep fluids small and frequent
Seek urgent medical care if you have confusion, repeated vomiting, fainting, seizures, trouble breathing, severe abdominal pain, or signs of alcohol poisoning
