Stop shaving or waxing the area until it heals
Apply a warm compress for 10 to 15 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day
Gently cleanse the underarm with mild soap and water
Exfoliate lightly with a soft washcloth or gentle scrub
Do not pick, squeeze, or dig at the ingrown hair
If the hair tip is visible, gently lift it out with sterilized tweezers or a sterile needle
Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment if the skin is broken
Use aloe vera or a fragrance-free soothing lotion
Wear loose, breathable clothing to reduce friction
Avoid deodorants or products that irritate the area until it improves
Seek medical care if there is increasing redness, swelling, pus, severe pain, or fever
See a doctor if the bump keeps coming back or does not improve within a few days
