Seal entry points with steel wool and caulk (around doors, windows, pipes, vents, and utility lines)
Install door sweeps and weather stripping; repair gaps and torn screens
Fix holes in walls, foundations, and siding; use hardware cloth for larger openings
Store food in airtight containers; keep pet food sealed
Clean up crumbs and spills; wipe surfaces and floors regularly
Keep trash in sealed bins and take it out frequently
Remove clutter and reduce nesting materials (stack firewood off the ground, remove cardboard)
Trim vegetation and keep shrubs away from building edges
Use snap traps in high-activity areas along walls and behind/under appliances; check daily
Use bait stations where appropriate; keep locked and out of reach of children and pets
Consider professional pest control for persistent infestations or if you suspect walls/attics are infested
Avoid using poison if children/pets are present; it can also leave mice dead in inaccessible areas
After control, clean droppings with disinfectant and wear gloves/mask; ventilate the area
Monitor with traps for at least 1–2 weeks after activity stops
