Seek urgent medical care immediately if you have trouble breathing, chest pain, blue lips, coughing up blood, confusion, or a high fever
See a doctor promptly if the cough lasts more than 3 weeks, is severe, or keeps returning

Use acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever or discomfort if safe for you
Treat allergies with appropriate medication if allergies are the cause
Treat acid reflux by avoiding late meals, spicy foods, and lying down after eating
Follow your doctor’s instructions if you were prescribed an inhaler, antibiotics, or other medicine
Do not smoke or vape
Get tested or evaluated for flu, COVID-19, asthma, pneumonia, or whooping cough if symptoms suggest them
Call emergency services if breathing becomes difficult or symptoms worsen quickly
