Apply a warm compress to the closed eyelid for 10–15 minutes, 3–6 times per day
Gently massage the eyelid toward the lash line after the warm compress (light pressure)
Avoid squeezing or popping the stye
Keep the eye clean; wash hands before touching the eyelid
Do not share towels or cosmetics
Stop using eye makeup and contact lenses until fully healed
Use artificial tears if the eye feels irritated
If advised by a clinician, use antibiotic ointment or drops for the eyelid/eye
If the stye is recurrent or not improving, ask a clinician about possible drainage or other treatments
Seek urgent care if you have worsening redness/swelling, severe pain, fever, vision changes, trouble moving the eye, or swelling spreading beyond the eyelid
Seek medical care if there is no improvement after 48–72 hours of warm compresses or if it lasts more than 1–2 weeks
