Apply a warm compress for 10–15 minutes, 3–6 times today
Use a clean cloth and re-warm it as needed to keep it warm
Gently massage the eyelid (light pressure) during/after compresses to help drainage
Keep the area clean; wash hands before and after touching the eyelid
Avoid rubbing or squeezing the stye
Avoid contact lenses until fully healed
Avoid eye makeup until fully healed
Use artificial tears if the eye feels irritated
If recommended by a clinician, use an antibiotic eye ointment or drops as directed
Use pain relief only if safe for you (e.g., acetaminophen or ibuprofen per label directions)
Contact a clinician urgently if you have severe pain, worsening swelling, fever, vision changes, trouble moving the eye, or if the stye is not improving in 48–72 hours
Seek prompt care if the stye is on the inside of the eyelid, recurrent, or large
If you wear contacts, switch to glasses immediately
