Most broken blood vessels in the eye clear on their own within 1 to 2 weeks
Use artificial tears if the eye feels irritated
Apply a cold compress for 10 to 15 minutes at a time during the first 24 to 48 hours
Avoid rubbing the eye
Avoid heavy lifting, straining, and intense exercise until it improves
If you wear contact lenses, switch to glasses until the eye is better
Control blood pressure if it is high

Get medical care if there is eye pain, vision changes, light sensitivity, injury, frequent recurrence, or no improvement after 2 weeks
