Sit upright and try to stay calm

Use your prescribed rescue inhaler as directed
Follow your asthma or COPD action plan if you have one
Avoid smoke, dust, strong odors, and other triggers
Drink water if you are able to swallow safely
Use a humidifier if dry air worsens symptoms
Rest and avoid strenuous activity
Seek urgent medical care if wheezing is severe, sudden, or not improving
Call emergency services if you have trouble breathing, blue lips, chest pain, confusion, or cannot speak full sentences
