Identify where the squeak is coming from: sole, insole, tongue, or heel
Sprinkle a small amount of talcum powder or baby powder under the insole
Apply a little cornstarch under the insole
Remove the insole and let the shoe dry completely
Dry wet shoes with newspaper or a shoe dryer
Use a leather conditioner on leather shoes
Rub a small amount of petroleum jelly on rubbing seams
Tighten loose laces
Replace worn insoles
Place adhesive moleskin or felt where parts rub
Lightly sand rough spots on the sole
Use a silicone-based lubricant on squeaky joints
Check for trapped debris in the outsole
Let new shoes break in gradually
Take shoes to a cobbler if the squeak continues
