Check the scene for danger
Tap the person and shout to see if they respond
Call emergency services or have someone else call
Get an AED if one is available
Place the person on their back on a firm surface
Open the airway
Check for normal breathing for no more than 10 seconds
If not breathing normally, start chest compressions
Place the heel of one hand on the center of the chest
Put the other hand on top and interlock fingers
Keep arms straight and shoulders over hands
Push hard and fast at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute
Compress the chest about 2 inches in adults
Allow the chest to fully recoil after each compression
Give 30 chest compressions
Give 2 rescue breaths if trained and willing
Continue cycles of 30 compressions and 2 breaths
Use the AED as soon as it is ready
Follow the AED prompts
Keep going until emergency help arrives
Stop only if the person starts breathing normally, an AED tells you to stop, or you are too exhausted to continue
