Add cold water until the eggs are covered by about 1 inch
Bring the water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat
Turn off the heat and cover the pan
Let the eggs sit for 9 to 12 minutes
Transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water
Let the eggs cool for at least 5 minutes
Peel the eggs when ready to use or decorate
