Choose a highlighting kit with a shade close to your goal
Do a patch test 48 hours before use
Gather gloves, clips, comb, brush, foil or highlighting cap, towel, and timer
Work on dry, unwashed hair
Put on an old shirt and protect surfaces
Section hair into four parts
Mix the lightener according to the kit instructions
Use a tail comb to pick thin or thick strands
Apply lightener from mid-lengths to ends first
Leave roots for last if you want a softer look
Wrap highlighted strands in foil or pull them through a cap
Repeat until all desired sections are covered
Check progress every few minutes
Rinse when the desired lift is reached
Shampoo and condition with the included products
Use a toner if needed to reduce brassiness
Deep condition after highlighting
Avoid washing hair for 24 to 48 hours
Use color-safe and sulfate-free hair products
Limit heat styling and use heat protectant
