Wash your hands first
Rinse the cut under clean running water
Gently clean around the cut with mild soap
Remove any dirt or debris with clean tweezers
Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth or gauze to stop bleeding
Use an antibiotic ointment or petroleum jelly
Cover the cut with a sterile bandage
Change the bandage daily or when it gets wet or dirty
Keep the cut clean and slightly moist
Avoid picking at scabs
Rest and avoid stretching the area
Eat enough protein, vitamin C, and zinc
Drink plenty of water
Watch for redness, swelling, pus, worsening pain, or fever
Get medical help if the cut is deep, won’t stop bleeding, or may need stitches
