Gently wash the area with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap

Wear loose, breathable cotton clothing or sleep without clothing if comfortable
Keep the area dry and avoid sweating
Place a clean, soft gauze or nonstick pad over the area if it rubs while sleeping
Avoid further friction, shaving, or scratching
Use a cool compress for 10 to 15 minutes if the skin feels hot or irritated
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed and safe for you
Seek medical care if the skin is broken, bleeding, very painful, swollen, or shows signs of infection
