How To Help A Newborn Poop?

Feed the baby regularly, since breast milk or formula helps stimulate bowel movements

Burp the baby during and after feeds

Move the baby’s legs in a gentle bicycle motion

Gently massage the baby’s belly in a clockwise direction

Give the baby supervised tummy time when awake

Keep the baby warm and comfortable

Check that formula is mixed correctly if bottle-feeding

Watch for signs of constipation, such as hard stools or discomfort

Contact a pediatrician if the baby has not pooped for several days, seems in pain, or has a swollen belly

Seek medical help right away if the baby vomits, has blood in the stool, or is not feeding well
