Make sure your dog has constant access to fresh water
Encourage regular exercise and walks
Feed a vet-approved high-fiber diet
Add plain canned pumpkin to meals if your vet says it is safe
Offer smaller, more frequent meals
Monitor for straining, pain, or no bowel movement
Check for and remove access to bones, toys, or other swallowed objects
Keep your dog’s stress level low
Contact your veterinarian if constipation lasts more than 24 to 48 hours
Contact your veterinarian immediately if your dog is vomiting, bloated, lethargic, or in severe pain
Do not give human laxatives, enemas, or medications unless your vet instructs you to do so
