Keep the baby well hydrated with breast milk or formula
Hold the baby upright for short periods while awake
Offer smaller, more frequent feedings if congestion affects feeding
Keep the baby away from smoke, strong odors, and dust
Use a steamy bathroom for a few minutes before suctioning
Keep the baby’s sleeping area flat and safe; do not use pillows or incline devices
Clean the nasal aspirator after each use
Contact a pediatrician if breathing is difficult, feeding is poor, or symptoms worsen
Seek urgent care for blue lips, fast breathing, chest retractions, or fever in a young infant
