Use saline nose drops made for infants
Place 1 to 2 drops in each nostril
Wait a few seconds to loosen mucus
Use a bulb syringe or nasal aspirator gently
Clear the nose before feeding and sleep
Keep the baby upright for a short time after feeds
Use a cool-mist humidifier in the room
Keep the baby well hydrated with regular feeds
Run a steamy shower and sit nearby for a few minutes
Avoid smoke, strong scents, and dust
Keep the baby’s sleeping area free of loose bedding
Do not use over-the-counter cold medicines
Do not use adult nasal sprays
Call a doctor if breathing is hard, feeding is poor, fever develops, or congestion lasts more than a few days
