How To Inject Insulin?

Wash your hands

Check the insulin label and expiration date

Gather the insulin, syringe or pen, alcohol swab, and sharps container

Inspect the insulin for changes in color or clumps

If using cloudy insulin, roll it gently between your hands as directed

Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and let it dry

Choose an injection site on the abdomen, thigh, upper arm, or buttock

Rotate injection sites each time

Pinch the skin if instructed

Insert the needle at the correct angle as directed for your device and body type

Push the plunger or press the pen button fully

Keep the needle in place for several seconds

Remove the needle straight out

Do not rub the injection site

Dispose of the needle or syringe in a sharps container

Store insulin as directed on the label

Monitor blood sugar as instructed by your healthcare provider
