Gather materials: perforated pipe, gravel, landscape fabric, fittings, drain outlet, shovel, level
Mark the trench line with stakes or spray paint
Dig the trench to the required depth and width
Maintain a consistent slope along the trench
Remove rocks, roots, and debris from the trench
Line the trench with landscape fabric
Add a base layer of gravel
Place the perforated pipe in the trench
Connect pipe sections and fittings securely
Cover the pipe with gravel
Wrap the landscape fabric over the gravel
Backfill with soil or top with sod, mulch, or stone
Install an outlet, dry well, or daylight discharge point
Test the drain with water to confirm proper flow
Compact and finish the surrounding area
Inspect and clean the drain periodically
