Block access to the couch with baby gates or a playpen
Keep the puppy on a leash indoors when unsupervised
Provide a comfortable dog bed or mat nearby
Reward the puppy for staying on its bed or floor
Redirect the puppy off the couch immediately and consistently
Use furniture covers or deterrent mats
Teach and reinforce the “off” and “place” commands
Remove toys, treats, and food from the couch area
Supervise closely during training periods
Make the couch less appealing by not allowing any exceptions
Give the puppy enough exercise and mental stimulation
Be consistent with all family members and guests
