Choose a quiet, distraction-free area
Have small, tasty treats ready
Hold a treat close to the puppy’s nose
Move the treat slowly upward and slightly back over the head
Let the puppy’s head follow the treat
Wait for the rear to lower into a sitting position
Say “sit” as the puppy begins to sit
Immediately give the treat
Praise the puppy right away
Repeat in short sessions
Practice several times a day
Keep training sessions brief
Use the same cue word every time
Reward only when the puppy sits
Stop if the puppy becomes tired or distracted
Gradually practice in different locations
Fade treats slowly and keep using praise
