Cast on an even number of stitches
Hold the yarn in back for a knit stitch
Insert the right needle into the next stitch from front to back
Wrap the yarn around the right needle
Pull the new loop through and slip the old stitch off
Bring the yarn to the front for a purl stitch
Insert the right needle into the next stitch from right to left from back to front
Wrap the yarn around the right needle
Pull the new loop through and slip the old stitch off
Repeat knit, purl, knit, purl across the row
Turn the work and repeat the same stitch sequence if needed for the pattern
