How To Know If You Have AIDS?

You cannot know if you have AIDS without a medical evaluation

AIDS is the advanced stage of untreated HIV infection

Get an HIV test if you have had possible exposure

See a healthcare provider if you have symptoms such as persistent fever, night sweats, weight loss, chronic diarrhea, swollen lymph nodes, or frequent infections

Ask for a CD4 count and viral load test if HIV is diagnosed

AIDS is usually diagnosed when CD4 count is very low or certain opportunistic infections occur

Do not rely on symptoms alone to determine HIV or AIDS status

Seek urgent medical care if you have severe shortness of breath, confusion, chest pain, or severe weakness

Use condoms and avoid sharing needles to reduce risk of HIV

If you think you may have been exposed recently, ask about post-exposure prophylaxis as soon as possible
