Turn the gas control knob to the “Off” position
Wait 5 minutes to clear any accumulated gas
Check for any gas smell before proceeding
Set the control knob to “Pilot”
Press and hold the control knob down
Use the igniter button or a long lighter to light the pilot
Keep holding the control knob down for 30 to 60 seconds
Release the knob slowly
Confirm the pilot flame stays lit
Turn the control knob to “On”
Set the desired water temperature
If the pilot will not stay lit, turn the gas off and contact a professional
