Sit down and rest quietly for 5 to 10 minutes

Recheck your blood pressure after 5 to 10 minutes
Take prescribed blood pressure medicine exactly as directed
If you missed a prescribed dose, take it only if your doctor has told you to do so
Lie down and elevate your legs if you feel lightheaded
Reduce stress and avoid sudden activity
Seek emergency help immediately if blood pressure is 180/120 or higher with chest pain, shortness of breath, severe headache, confusion, weakness, vision changes, or fainting
