Measure the slope needed for proper drainage
Gather materials: perforated pipe, gravel, landscape fabric, fittings, and drain outlets
Mark the trench path
Dig a trench with a consistent downward slope
Remove roots, rocks, and debris from the trench
Line the trench with landscape fabric
Add a base layer of gravel
Place the perforated pipe with holes facing downward or per manufacturer instructions
Connect pipe sections and fittings securely
Cover the pipe with gravel
Fold the fabric over the top of the gravel
Backfill with soil or add topsoil as needed
Direct the outlet to a safe discharge point
Test the drain with water to confirm flow
Restore the surface area after installation
