Bake two 8-inch round cakes or one square cake
Let the cakes cool completely
If using two round cakes, cut one round cake in half
Place the square cake on a flat surface if using one square cake
Position the two half-rounds on the top left and top right of the square cake to form a heart shape
Trim the bottom edges of the square cake into a point
Apply a crumb coat of frosting
Chill the cake until the frosting sets
Frost the cake smoothly
Decorate as desired
