Gather cardstock, scissors, glue, ruler, pencil, and decorative paper
Fold a sheet of cardstock in half to make the card base
Open the card and mark the pop-out section on the folded edge
Cut two parallel slits on the fold where the pop-out will sit
Push the cut section inward to form a folded tab
Fold the tab in the opposite direction to create the pop-out mechanism
Cut a shape or figure for the pop-out element
Fold the bottom of the shape to make a small attachment flap
Glue the flap onto the pop-out tab inside the card
Close the card gently to check that the pop-out folds inward properly
Reopen the card to make sure the shape pops out correctly
Add decorations, writing, or extra layers to the front and inside
Let the glue dry completely before closing or giving the card
