Gather flour, sugar, eggs, butter, milk, baking powder, salt, and vanilla extract
Preheat the oven to 350°F
Grease and flour a cake pan
Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl
Cream the butter and sugar together in another bowl
Add the eggs one at a time and mix well
Add vanilla extract
Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk, mixing until smooth
Pour the batter into the prepared pan
Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean
Let the cake cool in the pan for a few minutes
Remove the cake from the pan and let it cool completely
Frost or decorate as desired
