Soften 1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
Beat the butter until smooth and creamy
Add 3 to 4 cups powdered sugar gradually
Add 2 to 4 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Beat until light and fluffy
Add a pinch of salt if desired
Adjust thickness with more powdered sugar or more milk
Use immediately to frost the cake
