Use a stovetop pot with a lid
Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of oil to the pot
Add 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels
Cover the pot with the lid slightly vented
Heat over medium to medium-high heat
Shake the pot occasionally while heating
Listen for the popping to slow to 2 to 3 seconds between pops
Remove the pot from the heat
Let it sit for a few seconds
Pour the popcorn into a bowl
Add the seasoning packet from the microwave popcorn if desired
Toss to coat evenly
