Whisk in 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
Cook the flour and butter for 1 to 2 minutes
Slowly whisk in 2 cups chicken broth or vegetable broth
Add 1/2 teaspoon salt
Add 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Add 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Add 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Add 1/4 teaspoon dried sage
Add 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
Simmer until thickened, whisking often
Add more broth if too thick
Add more flour slurry if too thin
Taste and adjust seasoning
Serve warm
