Use the program that created the DMP file
Open it with a crash dump viewer
Open it with WinDbg on Windows
Use Visual Studio to load the dump
Use a hex editor for raw inspection
Try a text editor only if it is a text-based dump
Convert it with a compatible analysis tool
Check the file extension and source system
Update the software if the file will not open
