Identify the type and size of the tear or worn area
Clean the area around the damage (remove lint and loose threads)
Trim loose threads and frayed edges
Choose a patch material (denim for strength, iron-on patch for convenience, or fabric scrap for small holes)
Cut the patch to extend at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) beyond the damaged area on all sides
Test fit the patch over the hole
Align the patch with the fabric grain if possible
Use fabric glue or tailor’s chalk to position the patch in place
Iron on an iron-on patch if using one (follow patch instructions)
Pin or baste the patch in place if sewing
Thread a needle with matching or strong thread (or use a sewing machine)
Sew around the patch edges with a tight zigzag or straight stitching
Stitch through the center of the patch in a pattern (straight lines or a box/grid) for added durability
Reinforce stress points (corners and along seam-adjacent areas) with extra stitches
If patching a hole, sew the hole edges together first, then attach the patch over the area
Press the repaired area with an iron to flatten and set stitches (use a pressing cloth if needed)
Trim excess patch material if it extends too far beyond the stitching
Wash and dry according to the jeans care label (or patch instructions)
