Choose a ripe pineapple with healthy green leaves
Twist or cut off the leafy top
Remove a few lower leaves to expose about 1 inch of stem
Trim off any remaining fruit flesh from the base
Let the top dry for 1 to 3 days
Place the top in a glass of water with the stem submerged and leaves above water, or plant directly in soil
If using water, change it every few days and wait for roots to form
Fill a pot with well-draining soil
Plant the rooted top or dried top so the base is just below the soil surface
Water lightly after planting
Place the pot in a warm, sunny spot
Keep the soil slightly moist, not soggy
Wait for new growth to appear
Transplant outdoors only in frost-free climates when the plant is established
