Choose a site with full sun and well-drained, fertile soil

Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost or direct sow in cool weather
Transplant seedlings when they have 4 to 6 true leaves
Space plants 18 to 24 inches apart in rows 24 to 36 inches apart
Plant seedlings at the same depth they were growing in their containers
Water thoroughly after planting
Keep soil consistently moist
Mulch around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds
Feed with a balanced fertilizer if needed
Protect young plants from pests with row covers or netting
Stake plants if they become tall or top-heavy
Harvest sprouts from the bottom of the stalk upward when firm and about 1 to 2 inches wide
